Celebrate with us on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. as we present our Eighth Annual Figure Skating Spectacular – A Winter Celebration on Ice! We are privileged to welcome professional choreographer and skating coach Douglas Webster to our community for a weekend full of excitement and excellence on the ice. Doug will teach special skating seminars for both Basic Skills and Freestyle and Above level skaters on New Year’s Day and hit the ice running the next morning to choreograph our show. Doug recently choreographed the 2009 Sun Valley Summer Ice Show and the new Disney on Ice show.
Starring in the show once again will be Jozef Sabovcik. Jozef is a World Professional Champion, an Olympic Bronze Medalist, two-time European Champion, and six-time Czechoslovakian Champion. He is known as the first man to successfully land a quadruple jump in competition. Jozef lives with his wife and two sons near Salt Lake City, Utah where he trains and coaches. He has toured with Champions on Ice and appears in the Sun Valley Ice Shows in Idaho each summer. With a penchant for skating to rock music, the long-haired, blue-jean clad Czechoslovakian native performs in figure skating shows worldwide. Dubbed “Jumpin’ Joe” by his Olympic podium-mate and close friend Scott Hamilton, Jozef continues to wow crowds with his spectacularly high jumps and signature full-layout backflip. Jozef will teach both an off and on ice jump seminar on New Year’s Day.
New this year will be ice dancers Megan Wing and Aaron Lowe, the 2006 Canadian Silver Medalists. This will be the first ice show featuring ice dancing in addition to the other figure skating disciplines. Stay tuned for more information about Megan and Aaron!
Also returning as our special guest skaters will be the Colorado pairs team of Lisa Moore and Justin Gaumond. Moore and Gaumond are the 2009 Midwestern Sectional Bronze Medalists. Lisa and Justin will be assisting with the New Year’s Day skating seminars as well. Joining Lisa and Justin will be Keegan Messing of Alaska and Keli Zhou of Portland, Oregon. Keegan is the current 2009 Junior National Champion Silver Medalist. Kelli is also a 2009 Junior National competitor.
