Klamath Ice Sports offers recreational youth hockey programs for ages five through eighteen under the direction of Dalton Durrell, our Youth Hockey Development Director, and his group of talented volunteer coaches. The season begins in November and goes through the beginning of March each year.
Players new to the game of hockey are welcome; they begin with our Learn to Skate class and then progress to our Learn to Skate and Play Hockey class…upon graduation from the classes the new players are placed on the appropriate age level team. For the 2011/12 season, we will have an Atom/Mite (ages 5 through 8), Squirt/Peewee (ages 9 through 12), Bantam team (ages 13 and 14) and a Midget team (ages 15 through 18). Our bantams (junior high school players) will practice with the Squirt/Peewee team while we recruit and grow the size of this team. At the high school level, try outs take place at the beginning of each season for the Klamath Falls Ice Hawks, the varsity team, led by coach Charlie Erdman. Players who make the Ice Hawk team will play against teams from Medford and Eugene.
Are You New to Hockey?
Then you should start with our Learn to Skate & Learn to Skate and Play Hockey classes. Each session includes fourteen lessons, rental equipment(limited supply) and two open skate admission passes. Skaters must purchase their own hockey stick and mouth guard, which you can purchase at the arena, and a cup or pelvic protector. Skates, helmet, gloves and elbow pads are required for both classes and will be made available, while supplies last, to students who do not have their own. Equipment fitting is by appointment only so please contact us immediately.
The class times are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:50pm to 6:35pm but students are required to be completely dressed and ready by 5:40 pm so please plan on an early arrival. These groups share the ice with the Atom/Mite team and will be taught by Dalton Durrell and his apprentices. Sticks and pucks are introduced in the Learn to Skate and Play class during the second half of each session.
