Klamath Ice Sports offers recreational youth hockey programs for ages five through eighteen under the direction of Dalton Durrell, our Youth Hockey Development Director, and his group of talented volunteer coaches. The season begins in November and goes through the beginning of March each year.
Players new to the game of hockey are welcome; they begin with our Learn to Skate class and then progress to our Learn to Skate and Play Hockey class…upon graduation from the classes the new players are placed on the appropriate age level team. For the 2012/13 season, we will have a Mite team (ages 5 through 8), Squirt team (ages 9 and 10), Peewee team (ages 11 and 12), Bantam team (ages 13 and 14) and a Midget (high school) team (ages 15 through 18). At the high school level, try outs take place at the beginning of each season for the Klamath Falls Ice Hawks, the varsity team, led by coach Charlie Erdman and his assistant Jon Vanbragt. Players who make the Ice Hawk team will play against teams from Medford in the Southern Oregon High School Hockey League. This year the Ice Hawk team is open to high school aged players who are also new to the game!
Mite Team
Coached by: Riley Packer and his assistant (to be announced). This co-ed team is for players with prior hockey experience who are ages five through eight with birth dates 2004 through 2007. These players will share the ice sheet with the Learn to Skate and the Learn to Skate & Play Hockey classes. They will begin to work as a team and scrimmage. Equipment rental is included in the team fee while supplies last.
Squirt Team
Coached by: Eric Medl and his assistant (TBA)
This co-ed team is for players with prior hockey experience who are ages nine and ten with birth dates 2002 and 2003. These players will share the ice sheet with the Mite team and the Learn to Skate and the Learn to Skate & Play Hockey classes. They will continue to work as a team and scrimmage. Squirts can rent equipment while supplies last. Scholarship equipment is also available.
Peewee and Bantam Teams
Coached by: Tyler Thompson and Dalton Durrell
These co-ed teams are for players with prior hockey experience who are ages twelve through fourteen with birthdates 1998 through 2001. These teams will share practice ice with the Ice Hawks. We have rental equipment, minus skates and helmets, for the peewee and bantam teams. Scholarship equipment is also available.
Midget Team – High School Varsity (Ice Hawks)
Coached by: Charlie Erdman and Jon Vanbragt
This co-ed team is for high school aged players who are fifteen through eighteen with birthdates 1994 through 1997. Team selection is usually pre-season tryouts; this season the Hawks will take inexperienced players in efforts to field a full team. We have rental equipment, minus skates and helmets, for the Ice Hawks. Scholarship equipment is also available.
