Derek Martin

Klamath Ice Sports named Derek V. Martin as the director of hockey programs at the Bill Collier Community Ice Arena in summer of 2008. Martin has been involved in both amateur and professional ice hockey for more than 20 years. He grew up in Chicago playing amateur hockey and became involved in professional ice hockey beginning in 1983. He moved to the Klamath Basin 1997 to become the airport director of the Klamath Falls Airport.

He was a member of the senior management team of the Can/Am hockey group in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, which is recognized world-wide for its progressive teaching and hockey programs. From 1989 to 1994, he worked in the National Hockey League training program and has served as the district referee-in-chief for USA Inline and director of officials for the United States Hockey and the International Hockey League.

His goals as hockey director for Klamath Ice Sports are to increase every player’s skills and to maximize each player’s enjoyment of the game of ice hockey. “I will also work to get a local area hockey player selected to the Chicago Showcase, which is an annual event held in Chicago that features high school hockey players throughout the United States,” he says.
